New Haven and Providence Tummy Tuck FAQs

Serving Connecticut, Rhode Island, And Surrounding Areas

How long will my tummy tuck last?

The results of your tummy tuck should last for several years if you stay in good shape. However, you may require another tummy tuck procedure if you gain and lose a great deal of weight.

How is the tummy tuck procedure performed?

A tummy tuck involves excess skin and tissue being removed through a horizontal incision that runs along the lower abdomen.

How do I know if I am good candidate for a tummy tuck procedure?

Generally, healthy individuals with stubborn fat deposits are the best candidates for a tummy tuck. The ideal tummy tuck candidate will be a healthy individual who is relatively close to his or her ideal body weight. A tummy tuck is not a quick solution to obesity.

What can I expect during my initial consultation?

If you are considering a tummy tuck, you should schedule a consultation with Dr. Goldstein. You will begin by discussing your health and medical history. You will be required to provide Dr. Goldstein with your complete medical history, such as all medications you are currently taking, allergies, previous surgeries, and any other pertinent health information. You will also discuss your expectations following the procedure.

Is there anything I should do to prepare for liposuction?

If you smoke cigarettes, you should stop. Cigarette smoking can greatly increase the risk of complications related to bleeding and other circulatory problems. On the day of your tummy tuck procedure, you may not eat or drink anything eight hours prior to the procedure. Any medications you take must be evaluated and approved by Dr. Goldstein.

What type of anesthesia administered during a tummy tuck?

During your tummy tuck procedure, you will be administered general anesthesia.

Will I be able to return home the same day as my tummy tuck?

Dr. Goldstein requires that his tummy tuck patients stay overnight for observation.

How long will I be out of work?

You should be able to return to work within two weeks following your tummy tuck procedure. You will also be able to resume regular activities in this time, but exercise and other strenuous activity should be avoided for at least six weeks.
