Hair Transplantation
Providence, RI - New Haven, CT

More than 50% of the population (including women) has significant hair loss. When your appearance starts to cause anxiety and self-consciousness, then hair transplantation may be a solution you wish to consider. Hair transplantation involves transplanting bald resistant hair follicles from “donor areas” of the head to your bald or thinning areas. The transplanted follicles will typically grow hair for a lifetime because they are genetically resistant to going bald.

Hair loss is primarily caused by a combination of aging, a change in hormones, and a family history of baldness. As a rule, the earlier hair loss begins, the more severe the baldness will become. Burns or trauma, in which case hair replacement surgery is considered a reconstructive treatment and may be covered by health insurance, can also cause hair loss.

Unlike other measures, hair transplantation is permanent and does require surgery.  The results leave a natural appearance that is worry-free. The procedure is performed on an out-patient basis with the patient resting comfortably in a reclining chair. Though labor-intensive, due to the smallest grafts possible being used to cover large areas, it is a pain-free procedure in Dr. Goldstein’s facility.  Dr. Goldstein has pioneered the use of sedation by anesthesia to make the process painless and comfortable.

Physicians have estimated that one in five women will experience some degree of hair loss usually caused by aging, illness, or hormonal changes after menopause. Women tend to experience a subtle thinning all over the scalp rather than losing hair in patches as is common in men. To correct the problem, some women choose to wear a wig or hair extensions. Others have had some success using a topical prescriptive drug. The effectiveness of such drugs varies in some patients and simply prevents further hair loss without stimulating any appreciable new growth. Hair replacement surgery may be the answer for those who feel uncomfortable with either of these options.

Dr. Goldstein at Coastal Plastic Surgery Center in Providence, Rhode Island and New Haven, Connecticut, has been using the latest micro-graft techniques for the best possible results for the last twelve years, completing procedures for over 4,000 satisfied patients.  The results are always natural-looking and undetectable.
