Providence and New Haven Eyelid Surgery FAQs

Serving Patients Throughout Connecticut And Rhode Island

Rhode Island eyelid surgery patientWhat makes a good candidate for eyelid surgery?

Most eyelid surgery candidates are men or women with puffy eyes or bags under their eyes. These features can make you look old or tired. If you would like to look younger and you have realistic expectations, you may be a very good candidate for eyelid surgery.

How long does eyelid surgery take?

The amount of time your eyelid surgery takes will depend on whether you have both the upper and lower eyelids done together. If you have both the upper and lower eyelids, the procedure will take approximately one hour. If you are only having the upper or lower eyelids done, this time could be cut in half.

Does eyelid surgery involve anesthesia?

Most patients undergo eyelid surgery under local anesthesia with light sedation. However, if you are having eyelid surgery at the same time as another procedure, such as BOTOX®, you may require general anesthesia.

Will I be able to return home the same day as my eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, although we require that someone else drives you home.

How long will I be out of work following my eyelid surgery?

Most of our patients are able to return to work and perform regular activities within a week.

How is eyelid surgery performed?

Eyelid surgery involves a series of tiny incisions being made along your upper eyelid. Excess skin and fat will are removed, sagging muscles are tightened and the incisions are stitched. The incisions are made in the natural creases of your eyelids and there is very little scarring.

For more information on eyelid surgery, please call or e-mail Dr. Goldstein at our Rhode Island or Connecticut area plastic surgery office.
