Providence and New Haven Breast Lift Surgery

Serving Patients Throughout Rhode Island and Connecticut

Providence breast lift surgery patientHow is the breast lift procedure performed?

There are two types of breast lift procedures, the full lift and the modified lift. During your initial consultation, Dr. Goldstein will help you decide which method is best for you.

The Full Lift involves three incisions. The first incision is made around the areola. Another incision is made under the breast fold while a vertical incision connects these two. Excess skin is removed, trimmed, and tightened. The breast is recontoured and the nipple is raised to a higher position.

The Modified Lift, although not as popular as a full lift, is equally effective. A circular incision is made around the areola, through which breast tissue is removed. The main benefit of a Modified Lift is that the scar eventually fades into the natural border of the nipple.

Is there anything I should prior to my breast lift?

Dr. Goldstein strongly suggests you quit smoking cigarettes before you undergo breast lift surgery. Smoking cigarettes can lead to severe complications as you are recovering from breast lift surgery. If you are currently taking any medications, you will need to discuss this with Dr. Goldstein during your consultation. On the day of your breast lift procedure, you should not eat or drink for eight hours.

How long does the breast lift procedure take?

Dr. Goldstein usually completes breast lift surgeries in two to three hours.

What form of anesthesia will be used during the breast lift surgery?

During breast lift surgery, you will be under general anesthesia. You will essentially be asleep during your breast lift procedure and will not remember anything when you wake up.

What are the risks associated with breast lift surgery?

All surgery carries some amount of risk, and breast lift surgery is no different. Some patients experience complications or an allergic reaction to anesthesia. There may also be bleeding or infection following the breast lift procedure. Dr. Goldstein will discuss these risks with you so that you can make an informed decision.

Will I be able to return home on the same day as my breast lift?

You will be able to return home following your breast lift, however you must have someone drive you.

Following my breast lift procedure, how long must I wait before I can return to regular activity?

You will be able to return to work within a week of your breast lift procedure. However, you should probably avoid exercise and other strenuous activities for several weeks.
